WEBTOON's Japanese service, “LINE MANGA,” was crowned the winner of “Best App of the Year” and “Entertainment App of the Year” in Japan’s Google Play’s Best of 2023 Awards.
Every year, Google Play announces apps that have been loved by users through its Best of 2023 Awards.
LINE MANGA, launched in Japan in 2013, has gained popularity for its WEBTOON Originals and has expanded its presence in the digital webcomic market by offering various user benefits. This year, LINE MANGA received favorable reviews from users for providing competitive WEBTOON Originals, expanding touchpoints with readers through offering Daily Passes every 23 hours and promotional campaigns, and providing enjoyable services such as the 'MANGA Filter' to enhance the webcomic experience with additional enjoyment. Fueled by the increasing popularity of WEBTOON Originals, the webcomic "Teenage Mercenary" (written by YC, illustrated by Rakhyun), serialized on LINE MANGA, achieved a monthly GMV of over 180 million yen.
Sinbae Kim, Chief Growth Officer of LINE Digital Frontier, the operator of LINE MANGA, stated, "We will forge close collaborations with Japanese creators and studios to offer a diverse range of webcomics, including those that have been validated through WEBTOON's global platform. Our goal is to offer differentiated services by incorporating elements that enable users to experience webcomic in a unique and engaging manner."
